📌 UNfold: Breaking news
December 2024 visa bulletin: no movement in family or employment categories
The December 2024 Visa Bulletin, released on November 14, reports no changes in green card processing times for family- or employment-based categories. Priority and final action dates remain static across all regions and categories, including EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 for India, China, and others. As of now, the EB-1 priority dates for Indian nationals is still at April 15th, 2022.
Stephen Miller’s return signals H-1B restrictions under Trump
Stephen Miller's return as deputy chief of policy under President-elect Trump signals a likely crackdown on U.S. immigration, particularly targeting H-1B visas and other high-skilled work programs. Known for his hardline approach, Miller is expected to push for measures such as raising H-1B salary thresholds, implementing waiting periods, and restricting eligible job categories. This move has sparked concern among tech leaders and immigration advocates, as it could significantly impact talent pipelines and economic growth.
Why filing H-1B extensions before January 2025 is crucial?
With President-elect Trump set to return to the White House in January 2025, H-1B employers should anticipate the return of restrictive policies from his prior administration, including stricter rules for third-party placements, increased wage requirements, and higher RFE/denial rates. Employers are advised to file H-1B extensions in premium processing before January 2025 to minimize workforce disruptions and navigate potential policy changes. ILBSG recommends employers audit expiration dates, prepare necessary documentation, and take preemptive action to secure immigration status and maintain business continuity during this transitional period.
