Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in Trump v. CASA, limiting lower courts' power
On June 27, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6–3 in Trump v. CASA, limiting the power of lower courts to issue “nationwide injunctions” that had blocked President Trump’s Executive Order aimed at revoking birthright citizenship across the country. The Court held that such sweeping injunctions exceed judicial authority unless they’re narrowly tailored to provide “complete relief” to specific plaintiffs, not all potential parties. The ruling keeps a 30-day delay in place before enforcement could begin in states, creating a fragmented legal landscape and opening new avenues such as class-actions and state-led challenges to defend birthright protections.
Trump’s new tax bill includes extended cuts, deportation funds, and $3tn deficit risk
The US Senate has passed a major tax and spending bill backed by Donald Trump. The bill extends tax cuts that largely benefit high earners and introduces new deductions for tips, overtime, and US-assembled car loans, but only through 2028. It also allocates over $100 billion for border wall construction, deportation efforts, and hiring 10,000 new immigration agents.
Trump reinstates US travel ban, blocks citizens of 12 countries
President Donald Trump has signed a new order banning citizens from 12 countries, including Iran, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen, from entering the United States, citing national security concerns. The ban, effective June 9, also places partial travel restrictions on seven other countries such as Cuba and Venezuela. The order is part of a broader immigration crackdown and does not revoke visas issued before the effective date. The move has drawn criticism from the African Union and leaders of affected nations, who warn it could harm diplomatic and economic ties.
