Trump's return could bring H-1B visa changes for Indian tech workers
Donald Trump's return to Presidency is expected to reshape U.S. immigration policies, with potential impacts on the H-1B visa program, primarily used by Indian tech workers. Trump’s administration may focus on faster residency pathways for advanced STEM graduates and stricter H-1B wage requirements, potentially making green cards more accessible for skilled workers. Indians, who hold 72.3% of H-1B visas, might face more hurdles, particularly in tech-related roles.
Federal judge ends Biden’s 'Keeping Families Together' parole program
A federal judge in Texas has permanently blocked Biden’s “parole in place” program, which aimed to provide legal status for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens. Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled that the administration exceeded its authority. The program, launched in August 2024, intended to help 500,000 families avoid separation, but now faces an uncertain future as the Biden administration prepares an appeal to the Fifth Circuit.
U.S. tech giants increase H-1B use as Indian firms reduce reliance
Since 2016, U.S. tech giants like Amazon and Google have significantly increased H-1B visa use, with Amazon leading at 478%, while Indian IT firms like TCS and Infosys reduced reliance by 56%. Trump's return may tighten H-1B policies, raising visa costs and scrutiny. Meanwhile, India’s tech sector has invested $1.1 billion in U.S. STEM talent, partnering with U.S. institutions to strengthen its talent pipeline.
