Federal courts reinstate visas for thousands of international students
Good news: In the past week, federal judges issued injunctions forcing DHS to restore SEVIS records for thousands of international students whose F-1 statuses were abruptly terminated. Since late March, the Trump administration quietly revoked over 1,800 F-1 visas (according to Inside Higher Ed) after an automated system flagged minor infractions like traffic tickets or database mismatches. Lawsuits continue, with judges questioning the legality of the administration’s actions, but officials warned that visa terminations could still resume.
May bulletin is here... and EB-5 retrogresses for Indian nationals
The May 2025 visa bulletin is here, and unfortunately, the EB-5 “unreserved” priority date for Indian investors have retrogressed by over six months, now to May 1, 2019. That means Indian nationals investing $800K–$1.05M in U.S. projects face even longer waits for green cards. On the slight positive side, the EB-2/3 categories move forward by 2 weeks for Indian nationals. There are no changes on the EB-1, which continues to stay at Feb 15, 2022.
Top 5 immigration changes in first 100 days of Trump admin
In its first 100 days, the Trump administration rolled out a series of sweeping immigration changes - from tightening H-1B visa scrutiny to cancelling student visas - but the most consequential move may be its attack on birthright citizenship. The administration’s legal challenge, arguing that the 14th Amendment does not guarantee automatic U.S. citizenship to children born here to non-citizen parents, is set to be presented before the Supreme Court on May 15. We'll keep you updated on the progress!
