Carry proof of immigration status at all times, starting April 11th, 2025
The U.S. government has introduced a new regulation requiring foreign nationals, including student, green card, and H-1B visa holders, to carry proof of their lawful immigration status at all times. Effective April 11, the rule mandates that all non-citizens staying over 30 days in the U.S. register with the government. This is in line with the Alien Registration Act of 1940, though it was rarely enforced until now. Non-citizens aged 14 and older must register using Form G-325R and report any address changes within 10 days. This regulation aims to strengthen compliance across documented and undocumented immigrant populations.
May 2025 visa bulletin: Limited movement across employment & family categories
The May 2025 Visa Bulletin is here... with minimal movement. No change in EB-1 or EB-2 for Indian nationals, whereas EB-3 advanced by two weeks to April 15, 2013. Meanwhile, EB-5 India retrogressed by six months to May 1, 2019. In family-sponsored categories, F-2A saw a 3.6-month advancement, and F-4 China and Worldwide move forward by two months.
USCIS revokes over 500 visas, citing social media scrutiny and antisemitic activity
The Trump administration has revoked over 525 student, faculty, and researcher visas, citing various reasons, including social media activity linked to "antisemitic activity." Also: USCIS recently announced it will consider social media posts that endorse or support antisemitism when evaluating immigration requests. This new policy, effective immediately, has raised concerns about First Amendment rights, as many students and researchers face sudden deportation orders or visa terminations, disrupting their academic and professional lives.
