US appeals court rejects Trump’s bid to limit birthright citizenship
Big news: A U.S. appeals court has rejected President Donald Trump’s emergency request to restrict birthright citizenship. The ruling upholds the 14th Amendment, ensuring that children born in the U.S. automatically receive citizenship, regardless of their parents' immigration status. This is a significant win for immigration rights advocates and a setback for Trump’s longstanding efforts to change the policy. The decision reinforces constitutional protections and blocks any immediate attempt to alter birthright citizenship laws.
DHS mandates undocumented migrants to register and self-deport
Another big news: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a new policy requiring undocumented migrants in the U.S. to register with the government and voluntarily leave the country. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated that failure to register could result in fines, imprisonment, or both, though details on penalties remain unclear. The registry will collect fingerprint and personal data, applying to adults and children 14 and older, including DACA and Temporary Protected Status recipients. Officials claim this plan will reduce enforcement costs and streamline deportations. The announcement follows Noem’s recent warnings that undocumented immigrants “will be hunted down and deported.”
Lawsuit filed against Trump over immigration policy
Some big news: A group of American citizens and immigrants is suing the Trump administration for ending a key humanitarian parole program. This program allowed 875,000 people from war-torn and politically unstable countries like Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Venezuela to temporarily live in the U.S. The lawsuit argues that the sudden termination of this pathway has left many in legal limbo, fearing deportation despite following all immigration rules.
