DOJ whistleblower policy targets employers of immigrants
The DOJ has expanded its whistleblower program to prioritize tips about immigration law violations. This shift puts employers of H-1B and other visa holders at greater risk of raids, criminal charges, and severe penalties. Legal experts warn that past leniency won’t protect companies now, as immigration enforcement becomes a top federal priority.
Immigration advocates slam new alien registration form
AILA is calling on USCIS to withdraw its new alien registration rule and Form G-325R, saying they are vague, overly invasive, and legally flawed. The form demands a five-year address history and all past arrests, even expunged ones, while offering unclear guidance and missing key options. Advocates argue it bypasses public input and creates confusion and legal risks for applicants.
Surprise fingerprint checks for H-1B applicants raise concerns
USCIS has started demanding biometric data, like fingerprints, from H-1B applicants without prior notice. These surprise requests are hitting not just new petitions, but renewals and green card filings (I-140s). Officials say it's about fraud and security, but haven’t explained what triggers the extra scrutiny. Attorneys warn this shift mirrors Trump-era crackdowns and has left many applicants on edge.
