Trump's new travel ban: 43 countries face entry restrictions
President Trump is reportedly preparing a new travel ban targeting nationals from 43 countries. The draft proposal divides these countries into three categories: “red” (entry completely barred for an unspecified period), “orange” (entry allowed but with stricter screening and in-person visa interviews), and “yellow” (countries given 60 days to improve security measures or face restrictions). The final version of the ban is expected to be released by executive order on March 21st. Nationals from affected countries are advised to consult an immigration attorney and consider returning to the U.S. if currently abroad. Check my LinkedIn post for more details.
Green card holders are being stopped at airports and asked to give it up
Recently, some green card holders have been stopped at U.S. airports and pressured to give up their status, especially those who have spent extended time outside the country. Officers may try to intimidate travelers into signing Form I-407, which results in voluntarily giving up permanent residency—and this cannot be undone. If this happens, do not sign anything under pressure, and know that you have the right to see a judge instead. If you refuse to sign, officers must let you in, though they may schedule a court date to review your case. Stay informed and prepared—check out my LinkedIn post for more details!
USCIS implements new Alien registration requirement
USCIS has issued a new Interim Final Regulation (IFR), effective April 11, 2025, requiring non-U.S. citizens staying in the country for at least 30 days to register and undergo fingerprinting. The rule applies to most noncitizens over 14, including Canadian visitors for business purposes, with exceptions for those already registered through visa applications. Failure to comply may result in fines up to $5,000 or six months in prison. Registration can be completed online via Form G-325R, triggering a biometrics appointment, and registrants must carry proof of registration at all times. USCIS is considering a $30 fee for this process.
